Application note AP22

CP-30 – Polling modem using SNMP.

This Application Note describes how to setup a CP-30 to poll data from a Maxon Datamax+ modem via SNMP.

SNMP or Simple Network Management Protocol is an application layer asymmetric protocol which has been widely accepted by the IT community as a platform for the monitoring and management of a wide range of network attached devices. The communications is generally between a management station (top-end) and an agent (remote device).

In this scenario the CP-30 polls the Datamax+ modem via SNMP and stores the values returned, the CP-30 can then be polled by SCADA using DNP3 for the values received and stored from the modem.

Reading SNMP data the Datamax+ modem can provide a large range of diagnostic and monitoring information which can be used by the CP-30 or read by upstream SCADA.
